Introduction:

Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council is seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Director of Public Health to join our Senior Leadership Team. This strategic leadership role will work closely with the Director of Public Health to transform health services across the council and the wider Integrated Care System.

You will lead key areas within Public Health including health improvement, healthcare public health, and intelligence. A major focus will be contributing to the development of the Neighbourhood model under the Live Well programme, aimed at reducing health inequalities and improving outcomes for all residents.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic leadership across Public Health and wider council services.
  • Lead specific teams within Public Health, including health improvement and intelligence functions.
  • Collaborate with NHS, statutory partners, voluntary and community sectors to deliver integrated health solutions.
  • Oversee financial management of public health budgets and ensure effective business planning and performance monitoring.
  • Drive commissioning strategies to improve health outcomes and reduce inequalities.
  • Support development and implementation of the Neighbourhood model under the Live Well programme.
  • Represent the council at senior multi-agency forums and partnerships.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • You are a qualified public health professional (Consultant level preferred) with proven leadership experience.
  • You have strong problem-solving skills and can navigate complex political environments.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills across diverse stakeholders.
  • Ability to influence and lead collaboratively without direct authority.
  • Experience managing budgets and delivering business plans in a public health context.
  • You understand cultural diversity and demonstrate tact, diplomacy, and flexibility.
  • A passion for improving health outcomes and reducing inequalities in diverse communities.
